Turnberry Hotel

SquakyTravels to Turnberry Hotel, Scotland

Hello fellow adventurers! Squaky the kingfisher here, reporting live (well, slightly delayed, but who’s counting?) from my winter trip to the magnificent Trump Turnberry Hotel in Scotland! Yes, that Trump Turnberry! And let me tell you, it was worth every feather-ruffling moment.

Chilly January Getaway

I arrived to be granted a free upgrade to my stay (which was a pinch pricey when I booked), but a wonderful surprise! I settled into my luxurious room and immediately set about exploring. Let’s just say, the hotel design? Absolutely top-notch, not tacky but absolutely elegant – I felt like a little kingfisher prince!

First on the agenda: relaxation. And boy, did Turnberry deliver! The spa was divine. I indulged in a feather scrub and full body massage that left me feeling like a cloud, my poor wings needed pampering.

Next I went to enjoy the sauna and swimming pool. Oh, the sauna! Pure bliss. It’s safe to say, I’m now a sauna enthusiast which is confirmed from my recent stay at OOD Houses in Arbikie. Turnberry offered amazing views out to the sea from the swimming pool and it was delightful, perfect for a little kingfisher paddle and swim.

Glorious Food, reasonable prices

Now, let’s talk about the important stuff: food and drink! As a bird who prefers mostly vegetarian meals, I was thrilled with the breakfast spread. The coffee? Absolutely stellar and lots available – a crucial detail, as any seasoned traveler knows.

As a coffee fanatic (some may say coffee addict), I approve! For dinner, I ventured to the golf clubhouse and sampled their famous fish and chips (hard for me to resist fish when it’s available, so when in Scotland!).

The views over the golf course and towards the sea again were breathtaking, and the atmosphere was just right. I received a warm welcome and was granted all the time I wanted to enjoy my meal, which I ended with a cup of tea and an apple pie with wonderful flaky pastry topped with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Delicious!

Ultimate wind down experience

Of course, no trip to Turnberry is complete without exploring the stunning surroundings. I took a little flight (or a wander, depending on the wind) and spotted the iconic yellow lighthouse nearby. It’s a must-see! The restaurant there was closed for winter, but that gives me an excuse to return in the summer.

I took in the sea air and wandered along the beach a little letting the sound of waves wash away any travel weariness. What truly stole my heart was the proximity to the coast. The beach, the water – it was all so incredibly relaxing.

Back at the hotel I spent hours simply enjoying the sea view from various locations to sit, letting full rest and relaxation mode kick in. I found myself drawn to the fireplace, where I enjoyed cups of herbal tea, (so many to choose from including a local blend). I had some tasty carrot cake while engrossed in my latest book, it was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.

Sea views and Scottish Luxury

In conclusion, in my Squaky view Trump Turnberry is absolutely worth the cost and effort to get there – a 1 hour 20 minute drive from Glasgow. The luxurious accommodations, the fantastic food, the incredible views, and the relaxing atmosphere all combined to create an unforgettable experience. I’m already planning my summer return!
